According to Bain & Company, US$3.8 trillion was generated in the M&A market in 2022. Among all the transactions announced in the year, the largest was the purchase of gaming giant Activision Blizzard Inc by Microsoft.
Activision Blizzard, valued at around $68.7 billion, is responsible for major video game franchises such as Call of Duty, Diablo, Overwatch, and others.
This acquisition attracted the attention of market regulators around the world, as the company is one of the largest video game developers in the world. AB Inc. supplies its games to numerous Microsoft competitors, including Sony, the owner of the PlayStation consoles.
Furthermore, there is some concern that Microsoft will leverage other services, such as its cloud gaming platform and the Windows operating system, imposing tougher commercial conditions on competitors seeking access to AB's franchises.
