The data center market is a crucial segment of the technology industry, dedicated to providing and managing the physical infrastructure needed to host IT systems. In 2023, over US$1,400,000 (236 billion) were invested in the sector, representing a growth of US$691,000 (3,000) compared to 2013.
The sector is divided into three main segments, based on the service model provided by companies: servers, storage, and network infrastructure. Servers are essential for hosting websites, managing databases, and supporting cloud computing. Storage involves data archiving and backup systems, as well as information recovery mechanisms. Network infrastructure encompasses hardware-related resources and services, ensuring connectivity, data transmission, and security.
As of March 2024, the largest market was the US, with approximately 5,381 data centers. Brazil ranked 14th in terms of data center capacity, with a total of 163 units. Although still relatively small, the Brazilian market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.1% between 2023 and 2028, surpassing the global average of 6.6% over the same period.
