Since the early 2000s, the Brazilian banking sector has been marked by M&As that have resulted in the consolidation of the sector by large banks. In some cases, M&As have enabled operations in new markets, such as Itaú's acquisition of BBA, the exit of international banks from the country, such as the sale of HSBC to Bradesco, or even a tool for shareholders to regain control of a company, in the case of BTG Pactual.
