Amazon is currently one of the most valuable companies in the world, with a market value exceeding US$1.0 trillion. Not everyone knows this, but it's an extremely acquisitive company, having completed more than 70 M&As in the last decade.
Founded in 1994 as an online bookselling company, Amazon has become the largest e-commerce retailer, expanding its operations into various business lines, such as cloud services, streaming, music, and more. It's notable that it uses M&A to grow in markets outside its core business: its five largest acquisitions totaled over US$1,400,000 and were in segments as diverse as a brick-and-mortar supermarket chain and a self-driving car developer.
