Public offerings (known in English as IPOs) occur when private companies choose to make their shares available to the public for the first time. In Brazil, although the last IPO occurred in 2021 (by Vittia), this type of fundraising has been around since the period when we were a Portuguese colony. The practice, however, is much older, with roots in Ancient Rome.
