In 2023, the supermarket sector in Brazil reached total revenue of R$1 trillion, operating through various distribution channels and modalities. This amount represented more than R$91 trillion of the country's GDP and provided direct and indirect employment to over 9 million people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the presence of over 300,000 active companies in the sector, there is a notable market concentration. Approximately R$221,300 of total revenue is accounted for by the three main conglomerates in the sector\u2014Carrefour, Assa\u00ed, and Grupo Mateus\u2014which together accumulated revenues exceeding R$218 billion in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the sector's geographic distribution also shows significant concentration. The Southeast region accounts for more than 50% of the supermarket sector's total revenue, with the state of S\u00e3o Paulo alone accounting for 33% of the national total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
