Public offerings of shares (known in English as IPOs) occur when private companies choose to make their shares available to the public for the first time. In Brazil, although the last IPO took place in 2021 (by Vittia), this type of fundraising has been around since the period when we were a Portuguese colony. The practice, however, is much older, having its roots in Ancient Rome.
